Maintenance Endowment

The camp’s 25 buildings plus recreational structures and trails get heavy usage and endure a harsh salt air climate. It is important that roofs, plumbing, electrical systems and other elements have regular cleaning, repair, replacement and care to protect the church’s investment and to have quality facilities ready for use.

To help ensure this ongoing maintenance without overtaxing the budget (and rates), a maintenance endowment fund has been established. One half of the proceeds will be distributed each year to assist current camp care, the other half being added to principle until the fund reaches its $500,000 goal.

Gifts of $200 or over to this fund may be recognized with an inscribed brick in the Lakeside Meditation Patio.

List of significant facility improvements at Camp Magruder since January 2008

Abrams Cabin

New roof, interior painted, and floor painted.  Underground electric and new electrical panel installed.

Atwood Shower House Renovation

Converted gang showers into two private shower stalls each for boys & girls.  Provided three private bathroom stalls for each gender and added two ADA compliant shower/restroom facilities.  Underground electric and new electrical panel installed.  New counters, sinks, and mirrors framed with lumber milled on site.

Beutler Lodge

New Roof on north half of building; new interior lighting installed, bathrooms & shower remodeled, larger bunks and mattresses installed (2/09), interior painted, rot in south exterior wall repaired.  Replaced kitchen stove.  New electrical panel installed.  New porch on south side of building installed (2/10).

Boathouse

Thoroughly cleaned and organized.  Converted into a craft workshop.  New computerized kiln installed.

Bunch Lodge

Major renovation – removed old bathrooms and kitchen to create two new restrooms with showers.  Installed on-demand propane water heaters.  Added bookshelves to frame fireplace, converted from propane heat to electric cadets.  Added a hospitality counter with a microwave oven, coffee maker, sink, and small refrigerator.  Meeting room floor replaced and fireplace insert repaired.  Underground electrical service and new electrical panel installed.  Interior wood surfaces treated with lemon oil.

New Roof

Burfitt House Remodel/Addition

Renovated existing house adding one bedroom and garage addition; expanded the master bathroom and added a walk-in closet; converted old garage into living room.

Carrier Lodge

New Generator, new propane boiler replaced old oil fired boiler, galvanized fittings in heating system and control valves replaced with black iron fittings.  New floor in kitchen, kitchen painted, dining room walls treated with lemon oil, new fireplaces, new roof, walk-in refrigerator and freezers repaired, refurbished compressor installed over walk-in freezer, new grill, and two new convection ovens added.  Sewer line cleaned (1/10).  New entryway carpets installed, bathrooms painted, storage closet floor replaced.  Storage areas cleaned.

Collins Cabin

Interior painted, new windows, replaced propane heater with electric cadet heaters.  Removed large hazardous alder tree growing over building.

Docks / Water Trampoline

Swim pier installed in 1971 replaced with floating dock and 24’ diameter water trampoline.

Edwards Lodge

Complete interior renovation including new electrical service and new plumbing, 8 new bathrooms with showers or tub/showers (2), new bunk beds & mattresses, replaced forced air propane heat with electric cadet heat.  New lighting and paint in Kimberly Center.  Replaced windows.  New roof and replaced full kitchens with 2 hospitality counters including full size refrigerators, microwave ovens, sinks, and coffee makers.

Gatehouse Garage

South wall replaced and window added, doors installed, re-roofed.

Gatehouse

Remodeled interior to expand rear bedroom and incorporate former storage closet; remodeled bathrooms and kitchen, replaced flooring, and painted interior.  The hot water heater and kitchen appliances were replaced.

Kitchen Garden

A new herb and vegetable garden has been developed on the east side of the kitchen.

Labyrinth

A new labyrinth has been created in a serene setting in the moss covered meadow between Buetler Field and the ocean.

Miller Garage

Windows replaced, new roof, bricks laid for floor, new doors built and hung.

Miller Cottage

Complete interior renovation of main and upper floors including new master and downstairs bath fixtures, new stove (3/10), refrigerator (3/09), dishwasher (3/09) and microwave oven (3/09).  Fireplace repaired, glass doors installed, and hearth tiles installed.  New roof and windows.

Pacific Shop Building

Thoroughly cleaned and organized.  Stairways added to access upstairs storage on both ends, interior bays enclosed along south wall to form saw shop, paint shop, and woodworking shop.

Pianos

Humidistats installed in every piano.  Pianos tuned annually.

Pioneer Cottage

New roof, laundry room addition completely renovated and insulated (3/10), east half of south exterior wall replaced due to rot (former roof improperly flashed).  New porch supports installed.  Main floor shower room (2/09) and bathroom remodeled (3/10).  New electrical panel installed.  New clothes dryer installed.

Pioneer Shed

Pole building braced and cleaned – converted to recycling center.  Park Model trailer sold.

Pitney Pile

New six-bin compost station built behind Pacific Shop Building.

Potter’s Haven

New windows, towel racks, and exterior paint.

Shorehouse

Painted floors in restrooms, replaced several windows, new shower curtains, repaired plumbing.  Upstairs porch replaced and new exterior security light installed.

Twin Rocks Cabin

Roof, exterior siding repairs, and new windows installed.
