Vision 2020
Vision 2020 Master Plan In December of 2002, the Vision 2020 Master Plan
was completed for the future development of the Camp Magruder facility
and ministry. Camp Magruder now hosts more than 26,000 daily guest visitors per year,
turning away many requests for camps and retreats. Besides winterizations
and comfort improvements to current facilities, we hope to soon build some
new structures to meet current needs and the growing adult and family retreat
requests.

Vision
2020 Site Plan
On property purchased in 1943, Camp Magruder is owned and operated by
the Oregon-Idaho Conference of the United Methodist Church. The camp is
open year round and offers a unique setting for camp and retreat programs
for all ages. Up to 275 persons can be accommodated on the site through
a variety of lodging, cooking, dining and recreational facilities. The
160-acre property is located along Highway 101 between Smith Lake and a
secluded beach on the Oregon Coast, 14 miles north of Tillamook. The long
history of use at this spectacular coastal setting has created a rich tradition
and many fond memories for campers as they return year after year.
The beautiful setting, diverse offerings, proximity to the greater Portland
metropolitan area and tradition of repeat use has led Camp Magruder to
become a very popular destination within the United Methodist Conference
and a variety of other church and school groups. Increased demand on existing
facilities and long waiting lists led to a desire to examine the capacity
of the site to house additional guests and better serve the current clientele.
The master plan update for the Camp was developed under the direction
of the Camp's site planning committee. Through a series of workshops, a
program for the site was developed and site and facility plans were refined
and tested on the site, with a goal of providing 275+/- camper beds, plus
a small adult retreat center for 24 and a larger full service adult retreat
center for 64 additional guests.
Purpose of the Master Plan
- provide a framework to guide implementation of improvements
over the next 20 years in a manner that protects the unique character
of the site
- respond to increased demand by upgrading housing, meeting
and program offerings for the core camp
- expand the program and facility offerings for adult
retreats.
