Outdoor School

Camp Magruder provides a wonderful learning environment very rich place to learn with over 40 years of history in environmental education. Within or adjacent to its 160 acres are a wide variety of ecosystems, including forest, ocean, freshwater lake, marsh, and ocean tide pools. We are proud to partner with the Northwest Regional Education Service District (NWRESD) Outdoor Science School program. NWRESD offers both fall and spring sessions at Camp Magruder, providing a high quality, yet low cost, experiential education component to supplement the school curriculum. In addition to partnering with the NWRESD, Camp Magruder offers opportunity for individual schools to run their own outdoor school programs. Camp Magruder is an ideal site for outdoor education with facilities capable of hosting up to 275 teachers, students, counselors, and staff.
Since 1969, the Northwest Regional Outdoor Science School has been contributing to the development of environmental literacy and responsible citizenship, providing hands-on learning experiences that are integrated with local school curricula, and promoting learning about, and appreciation for, the natural world. Curriculum is based on the standards set by Oregon's Education Act for the 21st Century. It is aligned with benchmarks for 5th and 8th grades in Science, Math, English, Social Science, Health Education, Physical Education, and the arts. |

Northwest Regional Outdoor Science School is a multi-day, overnight experience for sixth grade students. Participants live in and learn about the natural world in a natural setting. Students are exposed to careers in science and natural resource management. They participate in real scientific research through data collection and analysis, recreational activities, and community development by experiences shared as a group in cabins

The BeachWith direct access to Rockaway Beach and the Pacific Ocean, Magruder offers the opportunity to discover marine habitats.

Tide poolsThree Graces Tide Pool area is a short 1.5 mile walk featuring prominent seamounts in Tillamook Bay providing sea life exploration at low tide.

WetlandsThe north end of Smith Lake offers an exceptional example of aquatic plant succession in a transitional marsh wetland environment.

The ForestOld growth groves can be found offering unique places to study forest ecology while at Camp Magruder.
