Family/Friend Pod Volunteer Retreats
Bring your family to Camp Magruder for quiet rest, and take part in a work project that will benefit camp and give everyone a feeling of pride. Magruder is offering the chance for families and friend groups to stay with us, while doing work projects addressing some needs around camp.
Browse the work projects we’ve identified and choose one that fits the members of your family’s age and skill levels by clicking this link. Stay without lodging fees, enjoy the scenery of late Spring Oregon Coast, join in peaceful reflections, and bond together as you strengthen and support the camp we all love.
In addition to volunteering of time and service, the use of personal equipment is graciously accepted if available. Donations for project supplies and equipment will also be accepted from those able and interested.
Call 503-355-2310 or email [email protected] to check dates and discuss details for reservations and projects.

Food Service (any time of year)
Whether or not you are an experienced cook, we can use you in the Magruder kitchen. Our friendly Head & Assistant Cooks will be working by your side offering support and instruction as needed. Volunteers in the kitchen may do a variety of tasks depending on interest and ability, including: chopping produce, following recipes for a variety of homemade baked goods and dishes, serving food, greeting campers, instructing campers on KP duties, taking inventory, stocking deliveries, recycling, dishwashing, cleaning, sweeping, mopping, taking out garbage, etc. A variety of shifts are available in the day to suit your working style.
Office Assistance & Camp Store (any time of year)
The office, or Schaad Welcome Center , is usually the first place people connect with Magruder, whether it's by phone, e-mail, or when they arrive. Volunteers with friendly, welcoming smiles and phone voices, who enjoy paperwork, filing, data entry, figures, record-keeping, copying, computers, sorting mail or other office tasks, are needed year-round to help in the camp office.
Construction & Maintenance (any time of year)
Camp Magruder is in need of many caring hands to take care of this large facility. Ongoing camp operations and improvement projects require assistance in many skill areas: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, landscaping, trail trimming, sewing, recycling, gardening/composting, welding, roofing, engineering, auto mechanics, small engine mechanics, refrigeration, heating, appliance repair, energy efficiency, or just changing light bulbs, hammering nails, and other minor but important tasks.
Housekeeping (any time of year)
Getting the camp facilities clean and ready for incoming campers and guests every week and weekend is a huge task, and help is always appreciated. This can include sweeping, mopping, cleaning surfaces, bathrooms, kitchens, restocking paper supplies, washing windows, etc. This is also a great opportunity for a local volunteer to come out to help for a few hours on a regular basis.
